The 13th annual research and education networking conference, UbuntuNet-Connect 2020 was held as a virtual event from 18-20 November 2020. The event was scheduled to be held in Johannesburg, South Africa and hosted by the Tertiary Education and Research Network of South Africa (TENET) the NREN of South Africa but the physical meeting moved to virtual due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The conference featured keynote speakers and invited speakers who presented in different sessions on various sub-themes of the conference. As per tradition, the conference was preceded by pre-conference events including online engineer capacity building workshops and other events under the AfricaConnect3 project.

The AmLight team presented a collaborative presentation with the representatives from RedCLARA, RNP, and TENET/SANReN.

Title: Advances in Collaboration in R&E Networking between Africa, Latin America, and the U.S.
Abstract: This is a collaborative presentation between representatives from each continent and will cover TENET/SANReN activities with redCLARA to connect UbuntuNet to the peering fabric and monitor network traffic. An AmLight -ExP Consortium, AmLight-SACS, and AtlanticWave-SDX update will be presented. The new Q-Factor project will discuss temporal network state data to dynamically configure current transport protocol parameters to reach higher network utilization. The Brazilian Research and Educational Network will cover a planned demonstration for 2020 between the USA, Brazil, and South Africa.
